The last there performances have been poor against sides likely to be relegated.

I have no idea why the manager decided it was a good idea to play that side, it was a mistake and these 3 games have had the Kouyate/Noble partnership that doesn't work.

Youre talking like we are a shambles....

We are unbeaten in 5 league games and teams are only scoring due us giving them the ball in silly areas

We are dangerous going forward and have our players playing in their most effective positions

Cut out the silly mistakes is what we should be aiming to do not implement a whole new shape, if it aint broke and all that

Re: Root causes/weak link
Being 2-0 down was nothing to do with that. It was to do with a CH not doing his job properly and a goof finish after another mistake.

Do you actually watch West Ham play? I struggle to believe anyone that actually does thinks the set up is fine after the last two games.

TWO - nil down at Sunderland, a fucking awful side who should have finished the game when Borini fucked that chance to make it 3 may be acceptable to you but it isn't to me.

Our best performance of the season came with 3 central midfielders. The ONE win where our keeper didn't make a massive contribution to the victory.

It's all very simple

IF you let the other team control the midfield and they push you onto the back foot then you're more likely to make an error that leads to a goal than if you have control of the midfield and the game.

I really hope we aren't locking into one system, whatever it is.

Re: Root causes/weak link
I'll take players giving the ball away if they do so in the pursuit of attacking, entertaining football.

Payet has done this. Noble has done this.

Obviously it's better if they don't but I suspect they know that.

The last thing I want is players scared to pass beyond the man 5 yards away from them. That way, Allardyce-type drabness lies.

We're scoring goals and its only due to silly mistakes we are letting them in

Cut them out and we will win more games, no need for overhaul of team shape just yet......unbeaten in 5 remember

Indeed but a slightly shaky start in performance for our new captain is not reason to make him the new Nolan.

Re: Root causes/weak link
We're simply not winning the midfield and not winning the midfield works against us both ways, it puts pressure on the defence and it doesn't give a platform for the front players to work from.

This 4-2-3-1 isn't working for us, we need to change and change it starting with palace to either a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-1-2-1-2

I prefer the later although it does somewhat sideline our wide players.

When we deployed that system in the first half of last season we were excellent and that's the way I would like to see us go although depending on the opposition and venue then in games the width of the 4-1-4-1 gives a better option BUT what is clear is we need to be playing with THREE central midfielders.

Our best game this season was with the 3 central midfielders and with a central 2 in particular without Obiang we've been at our worst and struggled to even compete in the midfield and been out played by absolute toilet like Norwich and Sunderland.

Re: Root causes/weak link
seems to be overplaying in our own half

shape i dont think would change that too much

we are better going forward then defensively at the moment so to weaken ourself up top seems strange

obiang i agree can provide that cover a bit more effectively as mentioned below so maybe bringing him in could be the answer

Also remember song made countless errors after Xmas, loose passes, giving away silly free kicks. They are only human but this time I have faith that billic will sort the problems out rather than be in denial like a certain fat git.

Yeah Payet has made mistakes, let's drop the cunt, that'll learn him

Sorry mate, when it happens with that regularly, to, as you point out a variety of players that did not make that many errors in past, there is something else going on.

If you actually watch games you can see that our central midfield and our flanks are under a lot pressure at times. And that if we are not counter attacking, we sometimes seem to lack a plan, so teams can just sit and wait to make any error count.

Re: Root causes/weak link
City goal Payet gave ball away edge of own box

Norwich at home Noble gave the ball to Brady

1st goal vs Sunderland Jenkinson makes stupid decision then poor marking

2nd goal Payet gives the ball away again

These are basic inexcusable errors as opposed to anything wrong with team shape

I guess that is the mentality that confuses me. They are both players on my team, which is doing pretty well overall at the moment with them playing different roles.

Why does comparing them mean than someone has to be on top. It is almost like being right about a player is more important than looking at what would make the overall team better.

Rossal 2:19 Mon Oct 5
Re: Root causes/weak link
4 of the last 5 goals conceded have been due to giving the ball away when there was no need too or stupid errors

Nothing to do with formation or the manager

Payet so far this season:
10.7 M (I'm assuming that's miles)?
8 games, 4 goals
3 assists, 32 chances created

Not baaaaaaaaaaaaad

Wasn't it payet who redeemed himself by equalising ? You cant compare players like noble and payet and hope to come out on top if your a noble fan.

Exactly. And that was my point last week after Norwich when the Noble bashers came out in force. Not one fucker mention Kouyate.

In the first half Noble was running around like a nutter trying to get hold of their two CM's and Kouyate looked like he was having a fucking jog over Regents Park.

He was really poor and, as you say, again at the weekend. But people tend to pick up on Noble and overlook this.

Bilic has got a big problem. Both our holding midfielders have, after a good start, hit poor form at the same time. And, as you say, Noble and Kouyate as a pairing in questionable.

Obiang is the short term answer but then it is who gets dropped? Bilic has sort of put his faith in Noble but making him skipper so it's going to be a difficult decision for Slav.

Down the road we have Song returning and we could see Obiang and Song in there at some point.

It needs sorting now as the holding CM's are vital and for two weeks on the spin they have been dismal.
